Ingredients

  • 2 pieces tempeh

  • 2 sausages

  • 1 cup Puteri Tepung Goreng

  • Water as needed

  • 1 stalk spring onion (chopped)

  • Cooking oil for frying

  • Toothpicks/skewers

Instructions

  1. Prepare the tempeh. Cut each tempeh block into 2 pieces, following the size of the sandal mold you are creating.

  2. Take each piece of tempeh and cut it again into 2 thinner slices.

  3. Make small holes in the tempeh:
               -One hole in front
               -Two holes at the back

(These holes will hold the sausage “straps.”)

  4. Cut the sausages into 2 pieces.

  5. Then slice each piece lengthwise into 2 (or more) sections but do not cut all the way through.

(You want it to open slightly but still stay connected.)

  6. Insert the sausage slices into the holes in the tempeh to form a sandal shape.

Use toothpicks to secure the sausages so they don’t fall out.

  7. In a separate plate/bowl, add 1 cup Puteri Tepung Goreng.

  8. Add a little water and mix.

  9. Ensure the batter is not too thick and not too watery.

  10. Add the chopped spring onions into the batter and mix well.

  11. Heat the oil.

  12. Dip each tempeh sandal into the batter until well-coated, then fry in hot oil.

  13. Once one side turns golden brown, flip and fry the other side.

  14. When both sides are fully cooked and crispy, remove from the oil and drain.

  15. Place the tempeh sandal on a plate and remove the toothpicks before serving.
